With over 29 years’ experience Louise Alvarez is known as one of Australia’s leading wedding gown designers. Her signature style is instantly recognisable; fluid lines, soft folds of luxurious silks, laces, satins and consummate detailing, such as hand beading, rendered with understated elegance.

For the bride to be, an appointment to visit the renound designers studio is a must, try on the beautiful gowns and recieve essential advice on what will work best for your figure, style and budget.

This true couture experience is a labour of love, it starts with a sketch of the gown you dream of. Before a single cut is made in the precious fabrics, a “toile” is made: a preview for fitting and refinement of your design.

Also offering a stunning range of demi couture pieces and accessories, there's something amazing that will work for every bride, Louise can create a look that extends to the whole bridal party including Mothers of the bride and groom and bridesmaids.

My passion is creating beautiful gowns for real woman.....I love nothing more than the satisfaction of creating a gown that showcases your best assets, skims over the ones you're not so thrilled about and gives you the confidence to feel absolutely beautiful on your big day! I love that what I do everyday is not a job....it's a complete joy! I initially contacted Louise with a coloured wedding dress enquiry. What resulted was a friendly face to face meeting to discuss silhouettes, budget and our colour palette. Louise was knowledgeable, sensitive, open-minded and wonderfully creative. We enjoyed our appointments with the team, looking forward to catching up with what they'd been up to. Both of our bridal gowns exceeded our expectations of style and colour. Though not intentional, my wife's burnt orange gown was a nod to her Indigenous roots and my cerise gown was a nod to my Indian background. From the moment I walked into Louise's I had the experience that was missing in all the other dress of the rack wedding stores. At Louise’s I instantly felt calm and special as I was the only bride in the room, and the dress I had been dreaming of became a reality when I spotted the beautiful fabric roll of tulle that Louise created my stunning gown from. I loved the fact it was made in Australia from beautiful silk and tulle and designed exactly how I had envisioned my dream dress and the fact Louise and Alisa took on board all my ideas and brought them to life, making sure the dress was designed to fit my body shape perfectly! I looked forward to every appointment where I was made to feel like a princess and loved the excitement of seeing my dream dress come to life!

She did the bridesmaids dress and my wedding dress! She was divine to work with, really professional! I lost about 15kgs before the wedding and she was making alterations up till the last week to suit me! The gowns were beautiful and Louise really designs it with you! She knows women's' bodies and knows how to design them for each shape! She's just a really nice and kind woman, and her designs are so intricate and detailed!

I would recommend Louise and her team in a heartbeat! My mum and I had our dresses made by Louise for my wedding. Nothing was ever too much to ask, the appointments to the lead up to the wedding were always a fantastic experience and the dresses were incredible - we couldn't have imagined anything better. How long do I need to allow for a custom made wedding gown?

It's great to organise your wedding gown as early as you can, the more time you have the more likely you'll be able to book in with the designer you feel comfortable with and the more options you'll have for fabric/lace choices, some of which can take months to arrive. Saying that if we have an enquiry for a gown to be made in a short time frame, and we have the capacity, we would still be able to create a beautiful gown, you'd be able to choose from our range of availible stocked fabrics. In short, the more time you allow, the better the chance of getting exactly what you love. If you have a year start looking already, eight to twelve months gives plenty of time to enjoy the process and make a great decission, six moths or less, you really have to get onto it ASAP. You'll find once you choose your gown it can set the tone for the whole wedding style and all the other details start to easily fall into place. Best of luck!

Is it common for brides to be pregnant on their wedding day?

Hi there, it happens quite often either planned or unplanned, and depending on the timing, if you are having your gown made to measure adjustments to the design or fit can be made.It's really importsant that you let your designer/dressmaker know as soon as possible as the fittings need to be closer to the wedding date than they would otherwise be. Sometimes it's all part of the plan, I have made so many beautiful gowns for pregnant clients including two heavily pregnant with sets of twins.They both looked absolutely glowing and beautiful at their weddings!

is designing a dress always more expensive than purchasing one?

The short answer is no.....when you are purchessing an off the rack gown there is usually multiple alterations needed as they are quite fitted garments with a long hemline, this needs to be just right. By the time you add the alteration costs which can easily be hundreds of dollars, quite often, value for money spent, goes with a custom made gown.....The price of a couture gown includes it having perfect propotions and fitting like a glove. It's worth keeping this in mind and exploring both options to see what you get for your money. A good designer is happy to guide you if you are working to a budget, always ask what the alteration fees are on a ready to wear gown before making the decission to purchess!
